Plant based in Paris: Part 1

Like any sane person would I took #brohannasveganchallenge to the next level by taking a flight to Paris for the final week. What could be more challenging than finding vegan food in Paris?  

Well it turns out, it's not as hard as I thought. First of all- I am lucky to have family who supports me and makes sure I can eat wherever we go. Second of all, I kind of forgot that Paris is a bustling city with tons of trendy places and lots of vegan options, but it hasn't all been easy.

 

I arrived around 10am (jet lagged and ready to sleep) and we immediately went to get some coffee. One issue: most coffee places don't have milk alternatives. So black coffee is was, despite my deep love for soy lattes. 

Then we headed to lunch at Season, a trendy vegetarian spot with that bright neon lighting similar to Sweetgreen. I got something with rice and cauliflower that tasted like a curry (I couldn't read the ingredients but my sister could and confirmed: vegan), a soy latte, and my sister got an acai bowl (sans dairy). It was a much needed nutritious meal after all that traveling and stress on my tum.

For dinner we got some bread and jam for me and crepes for my sister and mom and headed to the Eiffel Tower to relax in the sunset. I almost fell asleep in the grass, fortunately the champagne and beer peddlers kept me awake.

The next morning we went for a run and didn't want to eat until after which turned our breakfast into more of a brunch. The spread of fruit my mom prepared was out of this world good, and also surprisingly filling.

Then we went shopping and toured my sisters school, which was close to a hip cafe my sister frequented to study. This place was super trendy aka covered in succulents. They had an amazing veggie salad (which I forgot to take a picture of) and my mom had a matcha latte (which is tough to find in Paris). The food was good, but the atmosphere made this place more than anything.

Then we took a car out to the Chateau Vaux le Victome for a candle lit picnic, which was out of this world beautiful. I would absolutely recommend this place to visiting couples, the candle light was amazingly romantic and the Chateau itself is beautiful.

We found a place to sit on the grounds and were planning on eating the rest of the fruit from breakfast along with some veggies, bread, hummus, and of course wine. But as fate would have it my mom left the cooler with most of the food in the car that brought us here. It was a frustrating moment, but was made better when we realized she had the wine and bread still in her purse, not in the cooler. So we would not starve after all.

We sat looking at the candle lit scene, biting off chewy chunks of the baguette and sipping wine straight from the bottle. It ended up being a night for the books. 

 

So I'm currently very confident in my abilities to stay plant based on this trip. With my family fully supporting me it makes it easy, I think if they weren't it would be a different story. So kudos to you, mom and Caitlin.
